About the

project

Everyone likes playing with Lego.  Don’t you try to tell us that you’re ‘an adult’ and ‘Lego is for kids’ and yadda yadda yadda.  You’re just boring, that’s all that is.

Aaaaaanyways…

Before you decide on what you want to build, it’s always easier if you organise and sort the pieces somehow.  Whether that’s placing all the 2x1s in a pile, moving all the “Lightning McQueen red” pieces to the side, or just leaving them in the pre-organised bags, it always makes it easier to find what you need and make the right decisions further down the track.

Alteryx understands the same thing about your data.  

They’re the masters of sorting, organising, and arranging your data to make your life sooooo much easier.  But explaining just how they do this, not quite as easy.  That’s why they came to us.

Using Lego as our inspiration, we used shapes and colours to represent different data types, animating them into different shapes and categories to visually demonstrate how that Alteryx magic works.  

But then came the curveball.  We couldn’t use a VO.  Well, we could but because Alteryx wanted to use this video at a busy (or poppin’, as the kids say) conference, we needed to make sure this video would work just as effectively without VO or captions.  This meant not only did the visuals have to speak for themselves, but the clever placement and use of text on screen needed to be attention grabbing enough to stop passers by and pull them in to watch the full video.

So, we brightened those colours, crisped up those illustrations and developed a super clean animation that would be easy to read from across the hall.  A mixture of high and low speed movement, stunning colours and high end design made sure there was always something new on screen to catch people’s eye.

Alteryx is a leader in data analytics and business intelligence, helping organisations transform raw information into powerful insights. Their platform is all about making complex data simple, but explaining that process visually—especially in a high-impact marketing video—was a challenge. They needed an engaging animated video that could break down their process in a way that was not only clear and dynamic but also attention-grabbing in a high-traffic conference environment. That’s where we came in.

Discovery & Strategy

To make data analytics feel intuitive and relatable, we needed a strong visual metaphor. Enter Lego—a universal symbol of organisation, creativity, and problem-solving. Just like how sorting Lego bricks by shape and colour makes building easier, Alteryx helps businesses categorise and structure their data for better decision-making. This concept became the foundation for a visually compelling animated explainer video that simplified a complex business solution.

Concept Development

With the Lego-inspired animation concept in place, we crafted an engaging motion design approach, using bright shapes and fluid movement to represent different data types being sorted, structured, and transformed. However, there was a catch—the video needed to work without voiceover or subtitles, as it would be played in a conference exhibition space. This meant that motion graphics, animated text, and visual storytelling had to do all the heavy lifting to deliver the key messaging effectively.

Visual Design

We designed a high-impact visual experience, using:

  • Bright, bold colours to grab attention in a busy event space
  • Dynamic typography and motion graphics to convey key messages without a voiceover
  • Crisp, clean animation that made the data journey visually intuitive
  • Eye-catching transitions and movement to hold the audience’s focus

By combining cutting-edge 2D animation, motion design, and data visualisation techniques, we ensured the video was not just informative but also a highly effective marketing asset for Alteryx.

Testing & Refinement

Every aspect of the animation was optimised for maximum engagement and clarity. We tested:
✔ Readability from a distance to ensure key messaging was instantly understood
✔ Pacing and movement speed to balance high-energy engagement with clear storytelling
✔ Colour contrast and design hierarchy to maintain visual clarity even in a busy environment

By refining these details, we created a branded video asset that worked seamlessly across multiple platforms, from event marketing and digital campaigns to social media content and website integration.

Launch & Results

The final animated marketing video delivered exactly what Alteryx needed—an attention-grabbing, high-quality motion graphics piece that pulled attendees in and showcased the power of their platform in a clear, visually compelling way.
